“Inside Job” Reveals Wall Street at its Core

“Inside Job” is a “piercing” documentary about the Wall Street misconduct that led to the financial crisis. The director, Charles Ferguson, was recently interviewed by New York Times Dealbook columnist Andrew Ross Sorkin. A summary of the interview was published under the title, “After Expose’, Filmaker Sees Little Change on Wall Street.”

As the title indicates, despite passage of the Dodd-Frank financial reform bill, Ferguson sees very little change in how Wall Street operates. He is concerned that this means it will happen again. Many people who voted for President Obama and Democrats in Congress thought that the problems that caused the financial meltdown would be corrected, but it has not happened, says Ferguson. Recent actions by the new Republican House have undermined those changes that were made. Political leaders need to be led by their constituents to deal with this problem, according to Ferguson. He made the movie to get viewers mad enough to try to do that. Judging by some enraged comments posted by some who have seen it, he did a good job.

Although the movie was nominated for an Oscar, it does not appear to have been widely shown at major theaters. From all accounts, however, the interviews with insiders are riveting and dramatic. It will be released on BluRay Disc and DVD on March 8, 2011, according to the article.
